Clamp meters measure current without placing the meter directly in series with the circuit.

What matters

• Choose measurement and safety ratings appropriate to the electrical environment.
• Confirm whether you need AC current only or AC/DC current capability.
• Check jaw size against the conductors you normally measure.

How to think about the job

A clamp meter can make current measurements more convenient because the clamp senses current around a conductor. The clamp normally goes around one conductor, not an entire cable containing opposing conductors.
