How to Deal With a Socket Stuck on an Impact Wrench

A stuck impact socket can result from load, dirt, corrosion, a damaged anvil, or the retaining ring or pin.

Start with these checks

1. Disconnect the battery, air supply, or other power source first.
2. Inspect the socket and anvil for visible damage or misalignment.
3. Relieve side load and pull the socket straight off rather than twisting aggressively.
4. Follow the tool manufacturer's instructions for retaining rings, pins, and socket removal.
5. Replace damaged sockets or retaining components before returning the tool to service.
